Dr. Patrickios is faculty member at the University of Cyprus since 1998 and Professor since 2007.  His first academic appointment was at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1996.  He is a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA; Diploma, 1988) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT; M.Sc. 1990; Ph.D. 1993).  He leads the Polymer Science Group in the Department of Chemistry where his research focuses on the preparation and characterization of well-defined amphiphilic polymer conetworks.  Conetwork synthesis is performed using living/controlled polymerization techniques, including reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), and group transfer polymerization (GTP).  Conetwork structural characterization is performed using atomic force microscopy (AFM), and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) or small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS).  Properties of interest in these novel materials include high morphological regularity and superior mechanical properties.
